Along with the rest of the country, the National Science Day was observed at Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) Tezpur on Sunday to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect.
To commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman that earned him the Nobel Prize in 1930, February 28 is observed as National Science Day in India every year.
Eminent speaker Prof. (Dr) Utpal Bora of the department of Chemical Sciences, Tezpur University, graced the occasion as the chief guest and scientist-F of Defense Research Laboratory Dr. Pranavesh Chattopadhyay was present as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the initiatives taken, the principal of the newly-established pharmacy institute in Tezpur, Prof. Dr. Abdul Baquee Ahmed welcomed the dignitaries and described the objective of the function.
The students of GIPS Tezpur were motivated by the speeches delivered by the chief guest and the guest of honour.

An inter-college prize money art competition was organized on the theme ‘Science technology and innovation’ to mark the celebration of the National Science Day.
More than 30 participants from various science colleges in the Sonitpur district and adjoining districts took part in the competition.
In the art competition, the first prize was bagged by Siddhant Sharma of GIPS Tezpur.
The third position was won by Kashyapi Koushik of Kaliabar College and the second prize was bagged by Jenny Saikia.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Uddhav Patangia, convenor and Sandipan Chowdhury, co-convenor of the programme.
The National Science Day was also observed at GIPS Guwahati on Sunday.
