Apart from the cool respite from summer heat, Rainy season in Guwahati means water-clogging, flooded streets and mess everywhere along with dangers for pedestrians as well motor commuters.
In order to avoid this and related road mishaps as well as ensure safe streets for the residents, the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration is going on a cleanliness drive to clean up a total of 330 drains in the city, reports The Sentinel.
The cleaning-up drive of the drain under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is being carried in two phases. The first phase is already complete and the second one is in process.
The drive includes cleaning the rivers and water bodies of the city as well as clearing out of the dirt and garbage into the water courses of the city to ensure there is no clogging.

Along with that clearing out of the water hyacinths and weeds will also be done. Directions have also been given to keep the water outlets clean at all times.
Biswajeet Pegu, DC Kamrup (M), has said the usual method of leaving out the dirt stacked on the road after cleaning up the drain will not happen this time.
“All the dirt and garbage should be cleared immediately. There should be no halt in carrying out the cleanliness drive” he mentioned.
The projects will be taken out jointly by the GMC and GMDA (Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority).
