Averting a major tragedy, SF-10 commandos recovered a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) in poll-bound Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district on Saturday, police said.
“The 5-kg bomb was recovered on the road near Rongre river on the way to Nengmandal area and it was later detonated on the spot, Meghalaya police chief Swaraj Bir Singh told reporters.
Police suspect that it could be the handiwork of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army.
