Dimapur deputy commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan on Monday issued modalities on management and disposal of bodies of Covid-19 victims.

In a circular, the DC said, as laid down in the SOP issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on March 15, 2020, and the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority on April 13, 2020, the identified bodies of Covid victims will be handed over to the relatives for proper burial or cremation after taking all infection control measures by the hospital concerned.

He said the unclaimed bodies will be taken over by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for proper disposal. However, in circumstances when the relatives are not in a position to take a Covod-19 positive body due to various constraints such as financial and logistics, the SDRF will assist in disposing of it.

In the case of needy or poor families who are not in a position to pay any incidental cost of disposing of the bodies, the District Task Force will bear the expense/cost for the same, he said.
