The Assam Police in a bid to provide quality service beginning from its police station levels, has started construction of new modern police station buildings in the State under the centrally sponsored –Mission for Overall Improvement of Thanas for Responsive Image (Moitri) scheme.

The Assam government had shortlisted 73 police stations in the state to be made more citizen-friendly in the first phase of the Moitri scheme which was announced last year.

As a part of this, the foundation of the proposed new building of Mangaldai Police Station to be constructed at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 2 crore was laid on Wednesday.

The foundation of the proposed double storied building was ceremonially laid in the Mangaldai police station campus by Darrang SP Sreejith Thiraviam in the presence of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Satyajit Nath and other senior officials of Darrang police.

The project implemented by Assam Police Housing Corporation (APHC) is expected to get completed within next one year.

Under the scheme, physical infrastructure, Internet connectivity and basic tools for cyber-crime detection will be developed in all the 346 police stations in five years by spending Rs 2 crore per police station.

The police stations to be covered under the scheme will have various facilities such as reception and waiting lounge, video-conference system, separate cell and entrance for women and children, toilets, adequate drinking water, and boundary wall among others.

Mangaldai is one of the 13 police stations in the State in which construction works of new building have been undertaken in the first phase.
