Tension along the Assam-Meghalaya border escalated following a face-off between security personnel of both the states.

According to reports, the incident took place at Umlapher area in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, opposite to Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya.

Tension had been running high in the area since Tuesday after three youths from Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya were allegedly assaulted by personnel of Assam police.

The three youths were reportedly allegedly assaulted by Assam police personnel at Umlaper village in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district on Monday night.

Since then, shimmering tensions have been prevailing along the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state border. 

On Wednesday, things took an ugly turn after a large crowd of Meghalaya residents allegedly tried to enter into Assam near the Umlapher area of Karbi Anglong district.

Following the ‘incursion’, Assam police officials tried to stop the crowd by pushing them back, resulting a face-off between security personnel from both the states.

According to reports, a deputy superintendent of police ranked officer of Meghalaya sustained injures while trying to control the situation.
