The body of a youth has been recovered from the banks of the Brahmaputra at Chandmari ghat in Dibrugarh in Assam.

The victim, whose body was recovered on Friday morning, has been identified as Rajesh Singh of Chandmari ghat area.

The locals of the area spotted the body and informed the police about the incident. The body had deep cut marks on the neck and other areas.

The victim’s family suspected that somebody might have killed him with a sharp weapon and then dumped his body on the banks of the river.

“Rajesh has been missing since Thursday. We have been trying to trace his whereabouts these past few days. We suspect that somebody killed my brother and then dumped his body. The area has been a hub of anti-social activities. During the day many youths can be seen taking drugs,” said the victim’s brother, Bishal Singh.

Meanwhile, police have begun investigations and are using sniffer dogs to solve the case.

“The victim’s body bore deep injury marks. It seems he was attacked with a sharp weapon. We have started the investigation and very soon we will arrest the culprit,” said Rajiv Saikia, office-in- charge of Dibrugarh Police Station.
