With the aim of improving creche and childcare services in tea gardens, a training progarmme for creche attendants was initiated by ABITA Zone 1 in support of UNICEF Assam and Mobile Creches.
Mobile Creches is the technical partner of the Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) project, supported by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The project has covered 20 tea estates of Dibrugarh district and 20 tea estates of Tinsukia district.
The two-day training was held on September 23-24.
The training was inaugurated by PP Bastola, assistant labour commissioner, Dibrugarh on September 23 at DIbrugarh where 25 creche attendants participated.
In all, 50 creche attendants from 39 tea estates actively participated in the training.

The training on September 23 was held at Upasana Kala Kendra, Pub Banipur, Dibrugarh and on September 24, it was held at the Working Women Girls Hostel in Rungagora Road, Tinsukia.
The key objective of the training was to train the creche attendants on the importance of early years and impact of incidences of early years on later stages of life, nutritional need during early years (conception to 6 years), malnutrition, its causes and growth monitoring and importance of protection and age-appropriate stimulation for young children.
Neeru Bhatnagar and Ankita Gupta from Mobile Creche, New Delhi led the training as the key facilitators.
During the training, the participants were briefed on the subject and demonstrated on growth monitoring to improve the nutritional status of children in tea gardens.
Certificates of participation were given to all participants at the end of the training.
Madhurjya Barooah, secretary, ABITA Zone 1 said the initiative will help in improving the creche facilities in tea gardens and will benefit the children.
He thanked the UNICEF Assam and Mobile Creches for providing necessary support to the programme.
