Army and Assam police in a joint operation nabbed a hardcore NDFB (S) rebel from a hotel at Paul Para area in Chirang district on Sunday.
Police officials said arrested Filiman Narzary of Amguri area in Chirang district was a close associate of slain NDFB(S) cadre Jordan Narzary and has been involved in many cases of extortion in the area.
A pistol with three live bullets was found on him. He had warrants pending against him and had been evading arrest, a police official said. This operation is result of high vigilance level of the security forces.
This is a major setback to the militant group and has dealt a severe blow to the efforts of NDFB (S) in extortion activities, the official said.
