New Delhi : Several daily flights to Ayodhya, the destination of the iconic Ram Mandir or Ram Janmbhoomi, have been discontinued due to low passenger demand.
As per reports, the daily flights from atleast 13 cities have been stopped in less than seven months ever since the grand inauguration of Ram Mandir.
Although this alarming trend is a cause of concern for the aviation sector, officials at the Ayodhya Airport claimed that the decrease in passenger traffic is mostly due to the monsoon season.
Meanwhile, popular airline SpiceJet has stopped direct flights from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Patna to Ayodhya due to low passenger demand over the last few months.

It may be mentioned that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the grand inauguration of Ram Mandir, there was a huge rush among airlines to start operations in the temple town.
According to airport officials, the situation would improve in the coming months and tourist footfall to the temple town would also increase.
Civil aviation minister Jyoriraditya Scindia had also said at the time that while the current airstrip was equipped for domestic flights, a separate runway would be built for international flights and land was acquired for the purpose.

However, international airlines haven’t shown any interest in starting flight operations in the birthplace of Lord Ram.
Besides several flights being discontinued, special buses and train services from many states have also been ceased.
The temple priests believe this decrease could be due to heavy rainfall and intense heat that Ayodhya has been experiencing in the last few weeks.
They believe that once the weather conditions improve, the tourist influx will also rise in the city.
