In a massive landslide triggered by incessant rains for the last several hours, a 60-year-old man was seriously injured at 11th Mile under Jorabat police outpost on the outskirt of Guwahati city on Tuesday.

The injured sexagenarian has been identified as Hemeswar Bora alias B. Bora.

The incident of landslide suddenly took place when Bora was busy working at his eatery located along the National Highway 37.

Bora was injured as his makeshift eatery fell on him due to landslide and both of his legs stuck underground.

After being informed a team of Jorabat police rushed to the spot and rescued the man with the help of the locals and using a JCB.

The severely injured man has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

It is a known fact that due to illegal earth-cutting in the Jorabat area by unscrupulous traders, many a time incidents of landslide take place.

The locals have demanded the authorities concerned to stop illegal earth-cutting in the area.
