The Indian Army on Thursday conducted the first women’s recruitment rally for the Corps of Military Police to be deployed in the Northeastern region at Shillong.
The recruitment rally was conducted by the Headquarters of the Recruiting Zone, Northeastern Region for West Bengal, Odisha and Sikkim.
The selected candidates will have to appear for the written examination on October 26, 2019.
Informing this on their official Twitter handle, the Shillong-based Defence PRO stated on Thursday: “HQ Recruiting Zone, NER conducted first women’s recruitment rally for Corps of Military Police for NE Region, including states of West Bengal,Odisha & Sikkim at Shillong on 09-10 Sep 19.”
“The selected candidates will appear for written exam on 26 Oct 19,” it added.

According to media reports, the recruitment rally was conducted for the first batch of women soldiers to be inducted in no-combat positions.
Apart from Shillong, the Indian Army also conducted recruitment rally in Lucknow.
In the first batch, 100 women will be appointed as soldiers after they clear the selection test.
Media reported quoted Indian Army officials as saying that the two-day recruitment rally, held at Shillong, was participated by women candidates from Sikkim, Odisha and West Bengal.
On the other hand, the recruitment rally, being organisd at Lucknow, was attended by candidates from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
The selected candidates in the rally will have to clear the written test to qualify for training, say reports.
It has been reported that the selected candidates, who will have to undergo a training course of 61 weeks, will be inducted in March 2021.
A media report quoted a senior Army official as saying, “Batches comprising similar numbers of soldiers will be trained and commissioned every year.”
“The cadre of women soldiers in the Corps of Military Police will be maintained at a fixed number of 1,700.”
“This number will be achieved by filling the corps in batches,” said the official.
