To promote Manipur as a world class tourism destination, the much-awaited 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival was formally started here on Wednesday.

The formal inaugural function was held at well-decorated Hafta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal as the main venue.

The festival will conclude on November 30, 2018.

The festival was named after shy and gentle brow-antlered deer, locally known as Sangai, the State animal found only at floating Keibul Lamjao National Park, the natural habitat in Loktak Lake.
