Sports and Youth Affairs minster  Dr Mohesh Chai on Saturday called upon the youth of the region to opt for sports as a profession.

Addressing the students and faculties of Laxmi Bai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) here, Chai said in today’s world, sports has emerged as a multi-billion-dollar global industry and new avenues like India Premier League, Pro Kabaddi League, Premier Badminton league etc. have proved to be gargantuan revenue generators of the governing bodies like BCCI and  as well as players.

Chai felt that there is a need to streamline sports on various diverse forms of knowledge and contextualize it holistically in the fields of management and governance in the region as well as country.

He informed that development of sports throughout the country has been one among the flagship programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NE-Region is one of his special focus areas.

He also shared that Chief Minister Pema Khandu  has initiated major reforms for overall development of  sports in state and many more are in the pipeline that are aimed at catering the youth energy in the right perspective.

Briefing on the importance and contribution of LNIPE, in North East states, Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional director, Dr Subash Basumatary also shared his experiences for promotion of Sports across the region to the visiting minister.

Later, Dr Chai visited the Field of Play (FOP) accompanied by Sports Authority of Arunachal chairman Bamang Tago and Arunachal State Badminton Association joint secretary, Penya Bagra.

Earlier, the minister visited the SAI regional office in Guwahati and the Sarusajai Sports Complex where PBL and ISL are conducted.
