After the detection of Northeast’s first positive case of Omicron variant in Manipur, the state government has restricted music concerts, Thabal Chongba, celebratory feasts and large gatherings of people.
The Manipur chief secretary and chairman of the State Executive Committee, Rajesh Kumar, issued an order in this regard on Wednesday.
The order has been issued keeping in view of the “reported increase of infection by the highly mutant Covid-19 variant B.1.1529 (Omicron) in the country”.
The chief secretary in exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 20(2)(a) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 in his capacity as chairperson of the State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, ordered the restrictions of several activities.

The activities, which have been restricted are – music concerts, Thabal Chongba, celebratory feasts, large gathering of people in enclosed areas or indoor halls.
According to the order, night curfew will be imposed from 9 PM to 4 AM with exemption for essential services and medical emergencies.
“Wearing of face masks in public places, gatherings and crowded areas is a critical Covid Appropriate Behaviour and it should be strictly enforced and violators to be penalised promptly under relevant rules,” the order said.

“All District Magistrates shall strictly enforce the above restrictions by invoking relevant provisions of law,” the order reads.
This order is in continuation of the order of even number dated December 27, 2021 and shall remain in force till January 31, 2022.
