A total of 177 people from Northeast India have remained stranded in Russia due to lockdown imposed in view of COVID19 pandemic.
“The Union External Affairs Ministry is discussing with the Russia government to bring back the stranded people to India,” Tripura law and education minister Ratan Lal Nath told reporters during après conference here on Saturday.
Minister Nath said it has been decided to bring back all the stranded people to Guwahati from Moscow.
He said, “All the 177 people from Northeast India will be first brought to Guwahati and from there the respective state governments will make arrangements for taking back the people to their home states.”
Minister Nath said, “Out of the 177 people, 9 are from Tripura.”
“The Union External Affairs Ministry has asked the Assam government to make arrangement of hotels as quarantine centre so that those people, who are coming from abroad, can be quarantined,” said Nath.
According to the Tripura law and education minister, 25 people from Tripura have remained stranded in Ukraine.
“The people from Tripura remaining stranded in Ukraine will also be brought back to Guwahati along with the other Northeastern people.”
“But the date is still not finalized. A flight from Kiev to Guwahati will bring all the Northeastern people,” said Nath.
In Bangladesh, 53 people from Tripura have remained stranded.
“The Union External Affairs Ministry is also discussing with the High Commission of India in Bangladesh to bring back people to Tripura,” minister Nath said.
