The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills District in Meghalaya has urged the people in the district to remain vigil following the release of the National Registration of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner said, all people in the district should remain vigil so that there will be no illegal intruders entering any village in East Jaiñtia Hills district.

“Any person(s) whose identity is found to be not clear, should be brought to the notice of the police at the earliest,” the DC said.

The DC also called upon each and everyone to co-operate with the district administration in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the district.

The alert came after the Khasi Students Union had set up check points at Ratacherra in the district on July 31, and managed to detect over 1000 persons who came from Assam without possessing any documents.
