IMPHAL: As Manipur seems to be slowly returning to normal, the governments at the center and state are preparing for resumption of passenger train services between Jiribam to Khongsang, about 55 kilometers in the state from February 7, 2024, officials said on Saturday.

Jiribam-Khongsang train service remained suspended since May 4, 2023, after the ethnic violence erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023.

A railway team led by the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) Janak Kumar Garg conducted the final inspection from Jiribam to Khongsang railway station from 9:30 am on Friday.

The team, after a brief stop at Jiribam railway station, proceeded towards Vangaichungpao on their way to Khongsang for the final check of the railway lines.

The 14-bogey train that started from Jiribam arrived at Khongsang railway station in the Noney district of Manipur.

The station manager Sinreap Gangmei welcomed and received them. Ministry of Railways is arranging a special train for pilgrimages to reach Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh on February 7.
