The north-eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to experience heavy rains during the coming days.
At present, an anti-cyclone is over North Bay of Bengal which is feeding moisture over the north-eastern states. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over Bangladesh and its adjoining region, according to a report by skymetweather.com.
The weather experts further predicted on Monday that the combined effect of both these weather systems, rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue with good intensity for the coming one week across the entire north-eastern region.
As per reports by India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ was located at South East of Chennai on Monday morning. It is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by April 30 and that change path to Northeast from May 1.
Heavy to very heavy spells of rain accompanied with violent lightning strikes and hailstorm in parts will lash the region, the report further added.
Weather experts further warned that such widespread heavy rains will lead to a lot of disruption in terms of flash floods, landslides, road blockades etc over many parts of the north-eastern states.
Notably, moderate, heavy to very heavy rains have been lashing the region causing extensive damage to dwelling houses, school building and crops.
Cloudburst was also reported in Bomdila town in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh which was accompanied by a hailstorm, heavy lightning and thunderstorm activities.

The weather report added that by May 7, as the weather systems will move away, weather conditions over the Northeast will also start clearing up.
This will provide respite to the region with only isolated rains in one or two pockets.
