LIC agents of Dimapur holding a protest in Dimapur on Tuesday.

Joining the Life Insurance Agents Federation of India, the life insurance agents of the Dimapur unit held a protest demonstration at the LIC office premises here on Tuesday.

The LIC agents organised the strike to protest against privatisation bid of Life Insurance Corporation of India by the Government of India and demand a stop to online and direct marketing of insurance policies.

Besides, they demanded enhancement of their commission, gratuity, group insurance, term insurance and bonus for policyholders. They also asked the government to introduce personal accidental cover and mediclaim offer for all the agents.

President of the Dimapur unit of the federation Dilip Chandra Acharjee said the government is duping the insurance policyholders by not giving them their due bonus.

He said the agents have not been given any hike in their commission since the commission structure was fixed in 1956.

Acharjee demanded that the agent commission be fixed at 7.5 percent for every policy from the fourth year of the commencement of the policy as ‘regional commission’.

He also urged the government to provide medical and accident insurance coverage for all the agents.
