President of the Nagaland Athletics Association Abu Metha has been appointed as the associate vice president of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for the term up to 2024.

“On behalf of Executive Council of Athletics Federation of India, I am pleased to nominate you as Associate Vice President of Athletics Federation of India for the term upto 2024,” AFI president Adille J. Sumariwalla said in a letter, dated July 24, to Metha.

This nomination is as per clause XIII of the AFI constitution, the letter stated.

Metha is also the adviser to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and former editor of a local English daily Eastern Mirror.

Congratulating Metha on his nomination, Sumariwalla said he looked forward to his cooperation and guidance in the implementation of the AFI policies for the development of athletics in future.

Chief Minister Rio congratulated Metha on his new appointment.
