The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Tuesday revealed that it would field its candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election 2019.

While announcing this through a press statement issued to the media on Tuesday, NPCC president K Theria was of the view that there cannot be any ‘compromise on the inherent freedom of religion, culture and social practices’.

The NPCC statement further read, ‘Hindutva is the root cause of the noble political movement of Nagas. For this reason, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru provided Art 371 (A) safeguarding the religion, culture and social practices of Nagaland.’

It further stated that the Congress would strive to solve the Naga political problem through peaceful and constitutional means, reports The Morung Express.

The NPCC while acknowledging the ‘difficulties and realities of negotiation’, however, stated that 21 years of negotiation without solution is ‘unreasonable’.

The NPCC further stated that the Naga political issue needs the platform of a big political party in Parliament. “Although BJP has big numbers in the present Parliament, it has miserably failed to address the issue,” it added.

The party viewed that despite the Framework Agreement signed in 2015, ‘negotiation has continued till date without solution.’
