Mizoram’s Covid-19 count reached 4,049 on Tuesday as 9 more people have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, an official said.

One each of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and three children aged between 6 and 13 years were among the newly infected people, he said.

Of the nine fresh cases, five cases were reported from Aizawl district, three from Lawngtlai district and one case was reported from Lunglei district, he said.

While six cases were locally transmitted, the remaining three patients have returned from West Bengal and Assam.

The official said that only one patient has developed symptoms of Covid-19 and the rest 8 patients were asymptomatic.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 173 while 3,869 people have recovered from the virus.

Mizoram has also reported seven Covid-19 fatalities so far.

Of the 173 active cases, 80 are in Aizawl district, 21 in Lunglei district, 47 in Lawngtlai district, 16 in Serchhip district, six in Kolasib district, two in Champhai district and Khawzawl district has one active patient.

Siaha, Mamit, Hnahthial and Saitual districts are Covid-19 free as of now.

Altogether, 1, 65,763 samples have been tested, of which 2.44 per cent were found positive for Covid-19.

At least 1,146 samples were tested at Zoram Medical College, district hospitals and other places using RT-PCR, TrueNat machines and Rapid Antigen Test in the last 24 hours.
