Mizoram has launched Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) Project, an initiative of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to improve road safety measures.
Home Minister Lalchamliana launched the projects in a function held at Mizoram Police Headquarters in Aizawl on Tuesday, an official statement said.
Speaking on the occasion, the home minister expressed hope that the project would be helpful for state PWD in improving the road safety measure in the state, the statement said.
He said that other important projects like CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks & Systems) and 112 ERSS (Emergency Response Support System) are currently being implemented under the state police department, it said.

He announced that large projects like ICJS (Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System) and NAFIS (National Automated Fingerprint Identification System) would soon be launched in the state.
Citing that many of road accidents in the state occurred due to unscrupulous driving, Lalchamliana said that many road accidents could have been evaded if safety measure if taken appropriately.
Drivers have a high responsibility for the safety of commuters or passengers, he said.
The iRAD project is an initiative of the MoRTH funded by World Bank to establish an accurate and uniform accident data collection mechanism towards improving road safety in the country, the official statement said.

The purpose of the project is to provide mechanism to collect and analyse road accident data from all over the country to understand the causes of accident, it said.
It aims at formulating new interventions and policies to facilitate reduction in the number of road accident and enhance road safety in India, it said.
The project was implemented in the state since September 15 along with rest of the country, the statement added.
Since its implementation in September, Mizoram has registered at least 17 road accidents, of which two were fatal, through iRAD application.
The iRAD application can be accessed through mobile (android and iOS versions) and web platform.
