CM Lalduhoma acknowledged the difficulties faced by the transportation sector but urged the leaders to understand the government's constraints.

Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday met with leaders of the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union to discuss the challenges faced by commercial vehicles due to the state’s deteriorating road conditions.

During the meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office, Lalduhoma acknowledged the difficulties faced by the transportation sector but urged the leaders to understand the government’s constraints, particularly in the wake of this year’s heavy rainfall.

He highlighted the widespread damage and loss of life caused by the torrential rains, which have impacted many parts of India, including Mizoram.

The Chief Minister explained that the government has already allocated significant resources to clear landslides and restore road connectivity.

However, the ongoing rains have hampered efforts to expedite repairs on dilapidated roads.

To address the pressing issue of the Kawnpui-Khamrang section of National Highway 06, Lalduhoma announced his intention to personally inspect the road conditions at the earliest opportunity.

He informed the leaders that the maintenance of this crucial lifeline is currently handled by the Satguru company, with the contract set to expire in May 2026.

Given the company’s performance, the government has decided to terminate the contract and transfer the remaining maintenance funds to the Mizoram Public Works Department.

Lalduhoma emphasized the state government’s ongoing efforts to repair the road, but acknowledged the ongoing challenges posed by the poor road conditions.

The deteriorating infrastructure on NH-306 and NH-06 has led to a shortage of oil in Mizoram, as several oil tankers are stranded on the dilapidated roads between Kawnpui and Khamrang. This disruption in supply has impacted Aizawl and other parts of the state.

In response to the deteriorating road conditions, the Mizoram Oil Tanker Drivers’ Association (MOTDA) and the Petroleum Entrepreneurs and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram have announced a road blockade starting Tuesday to protest the lack of action on the Kawnpui-Khamrang road.
