The Centre has cleared the name of Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar for appointment as the next chief of naval staff. 

Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar will take over charge as the new navy chief on November 30, an official release informed. 

Present chief of Indian Navy Admiral Karambir Singh will retire from services on November 30. 

Born on April 12, 1962, R Hari Kumar was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on January 1 1983.

“During his long and distinguished service spanning 39 years, he (R Hari Kumar) has served in variety of command, staff and instructional appointments,” the official release stated. 

It added: “Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar’s Sea command includes INS Nishank, Missile Corvette, INS Kora and guided missile destroyer Ranvir. He also commanded Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat.” 

Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar is presently serving as the chief of the western naval command. 

Vice Admiral Hari Kumar has undergone courses at the Naval War College, US, the Army War College, Mhow, and the Royal College of Defence Studies, UK.
