Mizoram’s Covid-19 count reached 2,792 on Tuesday as 35 people, including four children, have newly tested positive for the virus, an official statement said.
According to a statement by the state Information and Public Relations department, 25 patients were diagnosed during contact tracing while the remaining 10 patients have returned from other states.
Of the 35 cases, 33 cases were reported from Aizawl district and one case each was reported from Saitual and Champhai districts, the statement said.
Four children, including a two-year-old girl, were among the newly infected people, it said.
There are 444 active cases in the state while a number of 2,347 people have already recovered from the virus.
Altogether, 1, 15,980 have been tested till date.
Meanwhile, the present lockdown in Aizawl which was scheduled to be lifted on Tuesday has been extended till 4:30 am on November 9.
Commencing from October 27, a lockdown was imposed in Aizawl municipal area to curtail unnecessary activities so as to break the chain of community transmission.
Mizoram is also currently observing ‘Covid-19 No Tolerance Fortnight’ across the state which will last till November 9.
The government order issued on Monday night said that entry and exit of people to or from Aizawl Municipal area is strictly prohibited barring those stranded before the lockdown or permission given by the state home department, and Local Level Task Force (LLTF) in the case of a medical emergency.
However, incoming and outgoing of essential commodities will be allowed and Lengpui airport will continue to open but flight passengers should register in mFlight on mCOVID-19 application, it said.
Residents of Aizawl are not allowed to step out of their houses without prior permission from concerned authorities.
All education institutions, religious places, outpatient departments of hospitals and clinics will remain closed.
All shops barring those dealing with essential commodities and pharmacies will be continued to close, the order said.
The number of attendees in the funeral and marriage reception is fixed at 35.
Mizoram health and family welfare board vice-chairman and ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator ZR Thiamsanga said the rising local transmission state, especially within Aizawl municipal area could somehow be controlled during the first week of lockdown.
“We hope to curtail the rising local transmission and flatten the Covid-19 curve during the extended lockdown,” he said.
He said that the Union Ministry of Health and Family welfare has projected 6005 Covid-19 cases for Mizoram by December end.
Mizoram on Monday reported no Covid-19 case and the total number of cases stands at 2,757, of which 409 are active cases.
The Northeastern state also reported one Covid-19 death so far.
24 people, including Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) chairman and ruling MNF MLA Vanlaltanpuia, who tested positive for Covid-19 on October 23, were discharged from hospitals on Monday, according to state health department.
According to the state nodal officer of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Pachuau Lalmalsawma, at least 9,781 samples were tested between October 25-31 and 309 of them came out as positive for Covid-19.
Of the 309 patients, 212 (39.15%) have developed symptoms of Covid-19, he said.
