Mizoram on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases, as 347 people have tested positive for the infection, taking the state’s tally to 14,534, an official said.
He said that the infection rate for the single-day was 10.39 per cent as 347 out of 3,337 samples tested came out as positive for Covid-19.
Of the fresh cases, Aizawl district accounted the highest at 246 cases, followed by Kolasib and Lawngtlai districts, which reported 50 and 31 cases respectively.
The remaining cases were reported from Lunglei district (12), Saitual district (5), Siaha district (2) and Khawzawl district reported 1 case.
81 children were among the newly infected people, the official said.

13 patients have travel history, while the rest 335 were found to have locally contracted the virus, he said
The contact histories of 148 patients are yet to be ascertained, he said.
Of the 347 patients, 188 have developed symptoms of Covid-19.
Mizoram now has 3,585 active cases; 10,891 people have recovered from the infection.
At least 122 people were discharged from various Covid-19 Care Centres on Wednesday.
The recovery rate is 74.94 per cent and the death rate is 0.40 per cent.

The death toll in the state remains at 58.
The northeastern state has tested 4,21,135 samples for Covid-19 till date.
According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, as many as 2,77,502 people have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine of which 52,826 have received both doses till Wednesday.
