The police in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district have arrested as many as three persons in connection with illegal drugs trade. 

Heroin consignment worth over Rs 2 crore in international market and weighing over 1 kg was recovered from the arrested persons. 

The drugs were seized by the police during checking of vehicles at the entry point to Meghalaya capital – Shillong. 

The heroin consignment was being recovered from a Shillong-bound vehicle that came from Manipur.

The heroin consignment was packed in as many as 100 soap boxes and was recovered after a thorough search of the vehicle. 

Two persons who were transporting the contraband were immediately arrested by the police following the recovery. 

One more person, who was supposed to receive the drugs consignment, has also been arrested by the police. 

According to preliminary investigation, the drugs were trafficked from Myanmar for sale in Shillong.
