Two-time United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA, H Brolding Nongsiej took oath as minister of the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalaya government at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong on Wednesday.

Nongsiej who represents Mawthadraishan Assembly constituency in West Khasi Hills, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor, Tathagatha Roy in the presence of chief minister Conrad K Sangma, Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and other ministers.

With Nongsiej as minister, the only vacancy in the Cabinet has been filled up.

Nongsiej replaced Metbah Lyngdoh who quit as minister on September 11 and got elected as Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly on September 13.

This is the first time that Mawthadraishan Assembly Constituency got its MLA inducted into the Cabinet.

Mawthadraishan became an Assembly Constiuency in 2013 after the erstwhile Parïong Constituency was deleted following realignment of constituencies during delimitation of Assembly segments.
