Students of Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat has set up an Agricultural Information Centre (AIC) in Darrang district.
The centre has been set up in the premise of Krishok Jyoti Sangha at Dahi-Dhuwapara village under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Darrang.
The students prepared various models like Integrated Farming System, Roof Top Gardening, Solar Irrigation, Drip Irrigation, Water Harvesting Model etc.
In this connection an inauguration programme was organized on Wednesday where Gurujyoti Das, Mangaldai legislator, attended as the chief guest.
In his address he expressed his satisfaction for organizing such an important event in a remote village of Darrang district.
He requested the farmers present to extract the best out of the programme for improving the cultivation practices and in adopting low cost models.
He also congratulated the students of AAU for their creative activities.
Participating the function Dr Kaushik Das, professor, department of Crop Physiology, AAU, Jorhat stressed on the importance of RAWEP Programme for the students in transforming their acquired knowledge for developing themselves to complete Agri graduates or scientist as a whole and to acquaint with the farming system of the villages.
Earlier M K Chauhan, senior scientist and head, KVK Darrang explained the objective of the AIC and its importance.
The meeting presided over by Tanu Ram Deka, retired head teacher of Dahi Middle English School, Dahi ended with the vote of thanks by Dr Muzaharul Islam, programme Supervisor of RAWEP.
Meanwhile, talking to Northeast Now, Rituraj Hazarika and Rimpa Das, both group leaders separately for boys and girls respectively of the altogether 32 students said, “A total of 19 models and nearly 90 charts and picture displays in flexes have been showcased in the AIC unit on various agricultural and allied technologies.”
“The function also featured a direct interaction between the local farmers, youths and us,” they added.
