The Meghalaya government has not been able to release the full amount of Rs 2,100 for three weeks to unorganized workers and petty traders.
The amount has been paid to those who have registered with the state government for special assistance in view of the ongoing anti-Coronavirus lockdown.
According to officials in the Meghalaya labour department, the state government has so far credited only Rs 1400 each into the accounts of approximately 1,49,500 unorganised workers.
“We have credited the amount into the accounts of 1,49,500 unorganised workers only for two weeks,” sources said.
Earlier, a total of 2,33,193 unorganised labourers have registered with the Meghalaya government for special assistance of Rs 2,100 each, for three weeks from March 23 to April 14.
However, only 1,84,184 workers were found to be eligible.
The Meghalaya government had decided to pay Rs 700 per week for such workers.
