As part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal (victory flame) was received by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma at Polo Ground in Shillong on Thursday.

The Swarnim Vijay Varsh is being celebrated to commemorate 50 years of India’s magnificent victory over Pakistan in 1971.

The Mashaal, which commenced its journey from National War Memorial, New Delhi on December 16, 2020, entered Meghalaya on July 27, 2021 and was handed over to chief minister Conrad Sangma at Polo Ground in Shillong.

To honour the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and to rejoice in the Liberation of Bangladesh, an impressive event was organized at Polo Ground.

The event was attended by prominent civil dignitaries of Meghalaya, senior military and police officials and Ex-Servicemen of Meghalaya.

Chief minister Conrad Sangma while addressing the gathering said, “We salute the martyrs, who made supreme sacrifice for the country and we must continue to respect the Armed Forces for their devotion and dedication towards the nation.”

Chief minister Sangma also emphasized that youth must take inspiration from this and choose the right path to serve the nation.

The event echoed a sense of pride amongst the people who attended the ceremony.

The Mashaal will remain in Meghalaya till August 8, 2021.
