More than 50 people including children have been admitted to the Diphu Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in Karbi Anglong district due to food poisoning on Tuesday.

It is suspected that the people fell sick after consuming the packet lunches served at the inaugural programme of the first academic session of the MBBS course in the medical college.

The number of patients is likely to increase.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the first academic session of MBBS course of Diphu Medical College on Tuesday in presence of education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The event was also attended by Assam mines & minerals minister Sum Ronghang, urban development minister Pijush Hazarika, Diphu MP Horen Sing Bey, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Tuliram Ronghang and others.
