Imphal: Three men from the Kuki community in Chandel district, Manipur, lost their lives in a tragic accident while tree-trimming near the Phuikon River bordering Myanmar on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Paomilal from Sajik Tampak village and Ngamkhollen from Kholenphai village.

A third individual, whose name is being withheld, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Churachandpur District Hospital.

According to official reports, the incident occurred when the men inadvertently made contact with a live power line while cutting trees near the riverbank.

The resulting electrocution tragically claimed the lives of two individuals at the scene, while the third was swiftly transported for medical attention.

“The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors,” stated a spokesperson for the local authorities.

“This serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers associated with power lines and the crucial importance of prioritizing safety protocols during tree-trimming activities,” he said.
