Manipur reported 254 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 9,791 on Friday, officials said.

In the last 24 hours, 196 persons (114male, 82 female) from general population and 58 personnel from central armed police force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of health department said in a press release on Friday.

The general population are from Imphal West,Imphal East,Churachandpur, Thoubal, Bishnupur,Kakching, Kangpokpi,Tamenglong,Tengnoupal and Ukhrul, Mangang said.

Two persons out of the general population are returnees from other States and the rest 194 are local residents without any significant travel history, he added.

In the past 24 hours, 233 persons were also discharged from the RIMS and nine other COVID care facilities.

“In the past 24 hours, one female aged 55yrs from Bishnupur expired at RIMS,” the release said. “The cumulative number of deaths is 63.”

The total number of positive cases in Manipur stands at 9,791, including 2,121 CAPF personnel, while the cumulative number of discharged cases is 7,602, the release stated.

The number of active cases is 2,126 including 403 CAPF personnel. The recovery rate in the State is 77.64 per cent, the release added.

Meanwhile, public have been appealed to self isolate and contact COVID control room or chief medical officers for testing if one had contact with positive persons.

At the same it also appealed to the public to consult government doctors from home from 10 am to 3 pm daily except Sunday through online teleconsultation by downloading eSanjeevaniOPD app or visiting www.esanjeevaniopd.in.

So far, 3, 78,307 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 2, 25,166 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres, official sources said.
