Imphal: A Manipur police commandos and Imphal East district police in a joint operation rescued two kidnapped youths and apprehended six cadres of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party, People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) on Friday night.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the joint team launched a targeted operation around 10 pm at a suspected location in Kshetrigao Yumkhaibam Leikai, Imphal East district.

The operation led to the safe rescue of Irom Anand (24) and Ngangom Rohit Singh (24), both residents of Kongpal under the Porompat police station.

The successful rescue came after complaints were filed by Irom Kunjeshor and Ng Ibomcha, fathers of the kidnapped youths, at Porompat police station. Their sons were reportedly abducted by armed men from Thambaokhong Sabal Leikai in the same district on Wednesday.

The operation also resulted in the arrest of six KCP-PWG cadres identified as Chingkham Sanajaoba (23), Soibam Sital (24), Maibam Naresh (24), Ningthoujam Ajit (26), Chingsubam Thoungamba Meitei (30), and Wahegbam Premjit (40).

Manipur police said these individuals were operating under the command of a self-styled KCP-PWG commandant named Ibomcha, who remains at large. Efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

Police recovered a four-wheeler vehicle, a motorbike, five mobile phones, and incriminating documents linked to the abduction from the arrested individuals.
