The debate over Assam ministers giving up security cover continues to heat up with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma making yet another statement. 

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that he wants to see an SP that could tell him that he could visit a district without security. 

“I want to see an SP who can tell me that I could visit his district without security,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. 

Sarma made this statement while addressing the second Assam SPs conference, which is underway at the oil town of Duliajan.

Notably, the Assam chief minister has already decided to reduce his entourage to half from Monday while travelling in Guwahati city.   

CM Sarma said that it is the duty of the police to ensure safety of all and not only the state’s chief minister. 

Earlier, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma requested Assam BJP leaders to give up their personal security officers (PSOs) terming it to be a “Congress culture”. 

Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Sivasagar BJP president Mayur Borgohain and Karimganj BJP president Subrata Bhattacharjee have already given up their PSOs.
