Woman cyclist and mountaineer from Hyderabad Kumari Jyothi Rongala, who is on a country-wide cycling tour, has arrived at Dhemaji in north Assam on Tuesday morning.

35-year-old Jyoti Rongala is a native of Pub-Godaavari district in Andra Pardesh.

She embarked on the biggest adventure of her life- a 30,000 km solo bicycle ride across India, including northeastern region.

Rongala has set off on her cashless-journey into the hinterlands to prove a point to the world that ‘Indian roads are perfectly safe for women’.

She has planned to complete the journey in 300 days and set the world record for the longest solo bicycle ride in a single country.

The brave woman cyclist has already crossed 4000 km so far, criss-crossed the country from Hyderbad to Kanyakumari and then to Delhi via Nagpur.

Although no untoward incident happened till date, she met an accident in Delhi during April, 2017 and left her grounded for a few months. Later she got recovered and resumed her journey.

The woman cyclist, who had arrived at Dhemaji town of north Assam this morning, was accorded welcome by members of Dhemaji District Journalist Association and other local organizations.

“I want to prove to the world that roads of India are safe for women. So far, I am receiving people’s welcome and they treat me as their family member,” said Rongala while informing that people invited her to their home and gave food and shelter at many places.

Rangala was proceeding to east along National Highway-15 towards Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh located at 140 km- from Dhemaji town.
