Lone survivor of the December 8 Tamil Nadu helicopter crash – Group Captain Varun Singh has succumbed to his injuries.
Singh breathed his last on Wednesday morning at Command Hospital in Bengaluru where he was being treated.
Demise of Group Captain Varun Singh was confirmed by the Indian Air Force.
“IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of brave heart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 21. IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family,” the IAF tweeted.

Condolences started to pour in soon after the news of demise of the Indian Air force officer broke.
“General MM Naravane, COAS and all ranks of Indian Army pay heartfelt condolences on the demise of Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the unfortunate helicopter accident in Coonoor on 08 Dec 21,” the Army said.

PM Narendra Modi tweeted: “Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.”

“Deeply pained to learn about the passing away of Group Captain Varun Singh, who was battling with the injuries after the helicopter accident in Coonoor. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has constituted a tri-service Court of Inquiry to probe and ascertain facts that led to the crash of its Mi-17v5 helicopter on December 8.
The helicopter crash on December 8 at Coonoor in Tamil Nadu led to the deaths of chief of defence staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 12 other security personnel.
