Number of ACS, APS and allied service officials are likely to be landed in cops’ net soon in connection with Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam as the Home department has already given clearance to police in this regard.

Dibrugarh police are investigating into the scam that rocked the state during previous Congress government.

Sources said that the nod has been given by the Home department based on the prima facie forensic evidence against them.

“We can expect the crackdown very soon,” said the source on condition of anonymity.

Dibrugarh Police has so far arrested nearly forty accused including APSC’s former Chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul in connection with the case.

Paul was arrested on November 4 last year, with two members Samedur Rahman and Basanta Kumar Doley arrested subsequently.

The three arrests were followed by the arrest of the Assistant Controller of Examinations of APSC Pabitra Kaibarta.

Recently, a lady ACS officer, Avishika Baruah has recorded her statements as an approver, which according to investigators has added teeth to the investigation and should come handy in securing convictions.
