Lashing out on Prime Minister Narendra after his video message on Friday, the Left parties asked the Centre to focus on “scientific measures” to fight COVID-19.

Modi, in his video message, urged the people to light candles on April 5 at 9 pm for nine minutes to display India’s collective resolve to defeat coronavirus.

“The entire country united and it has shown its strength to fight and contain the spread of coronavirus,” the CPI said in a statement to the media.

“At this juncture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that to defeat this darkness, we have to show the light in all directions,” it added.

“Days and nights are natural processes in the universe as much as the light and darkness. The entire pre-recorded speech was quite disappointing,” the statement added.

“What people need is scientific measures like vaccines, medicines and other immediate health projects to fight coronavirus,” the party added.

“A number of medical facilities have been created across the country and the Centre should give special efforts and support the doctors and other healthcare officials who are working day and night for our safety,” the statement added.

Urging the Centre to curb the spread of fake news, the CPI (M) also requested the Prime Minister to communicate scientific facts about the pandemic.
