Guwahati: The whole of the northeast has been witnessing incessant rain since Monday and the situation became grim in Meghalaya with the state being inundated with rains in the last 24 hours and normal life got disrupted.

According to reports, two persons have died in the state and there are several incidents of injuries being reported as heavy rain lashed Meghalaya in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, officials said on Tuesday.

According to officials, one death was reported from East Jaintia Hills and another in a car accident in East Khasi Hills district.

The relentless downpour in the past 24 hours has affected more than 17 villages in the state and has damaged several houses, a State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) report said.

There were also reports of landslides in different regions across locations due to this heavy downpour.

The weather department has predicted that Wednesday will also witness incessant rain in the state of Meghalaya.
