The Women’s India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) has launched its Handloom Council in Guwahati in Assam.

The handloom council has been opened with the vision of restoring, preserving and promoting the works of the indigenous weavers of the state.

It also aims to make these artisans stakeholders in the economic growth of the state.

Swapnanil Barua, former commissioner of the state department of industries and commerce inaugurated the digital launch of the council during a ceremony held in the city on Monday.

The campaign, ‘Hands Behind the Looms’ was also launched by Alakananda Das,  social entrepreneur and president of the India-Bangladesh Business Council, WICCI.

A discussion on the topic, “Assam Textile in the Global Arena” was also held on the occasion.

Many prominent participants took part in the discussion.

Kabita Deka, director of the state handloom and textiles department was also present on the occasion.
