Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) Guwahati has been hounoured with the Second Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) 2020.
Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank virtually conferred the Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award to GIPS Guwahati in category 4, out of 14 categories of institutions under the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti held on September 17.
GIPS Guwahati is the only higher educational institute in the entire Northeast region, which has been conferred the USVA 2020.
The Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA), instituted by AICTE in 2019, aims to motivate, recognize and honour the AICTE-approved institutions to raise their performance in the specific domain, leading to significant contribution for the growth and development of the society.
Amidst COVID19 outbreak, the educational institutes and the society as a whole witnessed extraordinary challenges and many institutes nationwide contributed in various ways by initiatives to help control the pandemic and to encourage faculty-student participation during lockdown that has closed the educational institutes since March.
Therefore, in order to recognize and motivate the technical institutions, AICTE under its Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) 2020 has proposed the theme of the year as “India fights Corona,” the process of which started from the month of April, 2020.
For the award this year, more than 900 educational institutions registered, out of which 535 applications were considered for the first round of evaluation.
These applications were scrutinized by a committee of experts, who shortlisted 103 institutions under 14 categories for the next round of evaluation.
Out of 103 institutions, 35 were selected for the awards.
GIPS Guwahati has secured second position under the category-4 for Materials/Product Distributed (e.g. Mask, sanitizer, soaps, food, clothes, medicine, study material, etc.).
College of Engineering, Pune received the first prize in overall category.
All the stakeholders of GIPS Guwahati have expressed their happiness over the achievement.
