Indian boxer from Assam, Lovlina Borgohain is all set to face Germany’s Nadine Apetz in the ring of Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the round of 16 at 10.57 am (IST) on Tuesday.

Lovlina Borgohain is the first woman boxer from Assam, who has qualified for Olympics.

On July 22, Lovlina Borgohain made it through to the pre-quarters of Tokyo Olympics due to the withdrawal of her opponent from the event.

She qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in March 2020 by winning the Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.

Apart from Lovlina, boxer Simranjit Kaur (60 kgs women) also qualified for the pre-quarters after getting a bye in the first round.

Terming Lovlina Borgohain as Baazigar, the Boxing Federation of India on Monday tweeted: “The first woman athlete from Assam to qualify for #Olympics our Baazigar @LovlinaBorgohai will play her first bout tomorrow at
@Tokyo2020. Fire Catch live action on @SonySportsIndia & @SonyLIV.”

Lovlina is an Indian amateur woman boxer, who won bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

She also won the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Nadine is a German amateur boxer who won bronze medals at the World Championships in 2016 and 2018.

She won gold at the 2017 EU Championships and in 2021, Nadine became the first German woman to qualify for a boxing event at the Summer Olympic Games.
