Six Assam sports persons have been selected to represent India in the upcoming Asian Games

They are Hima Das for athletics, Shiva Thapa for boxing, Ashmita Chaliha for badminton, Pramila Daimary for archery, Kabita Devi for Fencing, Rodali Baruah for Taekwondo and Jonali Dutta for Basketball.

Asian Games will be held in Indonesia, Jakarta from August 19 to 28, this year.

Hima, recently scripted history by winning a gold medal in the women’s 400-metre event at the IAAF World U-20 Championships. She clocked 51.46 seconds in the finals of IAAF World U-20  to become the first Indian athlete to win a world championship gold across all age groups.

Shiva is the first and only Indian boxer with three consecutive Asian Championships medals – a gold (2013), silver (2017) and a bronze (2015), and would be competing in his second Asian Games.

Ashmita who is the state badminton prodigy is all set to represent India at the Asian Games. She is part of the 20-member Indian badminton squad.

Pramila is the only archer from Assam has been selected to participate at the Asian Games. Daimary who has a world ranking of 15 in Archery has brought laurels to the nation by winning recurve gold at the Archery Asia Cup stage 1 in Bangkok Thailand. She was also in women’s recurve team with Ridhi and Sakshi Shitole who clinched bronze in Manila 2018 Asia Cup Stage 2.
