The Northeast Frontier Railway authorities have confirmed that six people lost their lives in the Bikaner-Guwahati Express accident.
As per the authorities, there were 1053 passengers on the train at the time of the derailment due to a “faulty track”.
Following the accident at least 200 BSF personnel were deployed on the accident site for the rescue operation.
Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Anguished to learn about the loss of lives due to a tragic rail accident in West Bengal. My deepest condolences with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also spoke to Union Railway Minister as well as West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee regarding derailment of Bikaner-Guwahati Express in Moynaguri near Jalpaiguri.
After Sarma’s communication with Mamata Banerjee, she assured him that the West Bengal government will provide all assistance and keep the Assam Government updated on the ground situation.
The people were killed while several were left injured after 12 coaches of the Guwahati-Bikaner Express train derailed near the Maynaguri town of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal on Thursday.

Several passengers were trapped in the debris of the trains that met with the accident.
Of the total injured persons, 10 people are critical and will be shifted to the North Bengal Medical College in Siliguri.
Many passengers are still feared to be trapped under the debris.
