Uninvited Mizo intrusion into Rengti hills falling under the ambit of Dholai-Mizoram border area is continuing unabated.
It is learnt that the Mizo aggressors have demarcated their ‘occupied’ areas by planting around 50 bamboo sticks across the hills on Monday.
“This is undoubtedly a matter of serious concern. Our state government should pull up their socks and take up this matter with their Mizoram counterpart,” said the advisor to All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) Rupam Nandi Purkayastha.
However, talking to locals this scribe learnt that the Mizo aggressors are taking advantage of the ongoing Assam elections because the local administration is now busy carrying out their poll related duties.
“The way these Mizo intruders are behaving clearly indicates that they are planning to stretch their arms up to Barman basti area at Lailapur. If our state administration continues to remain in deep slumber, the day is not far away when the entire Rengti hills will fall on the lap of Mizoram,” Nandi Purkayastha observed.
Moreover, this latest intrusion by Mizos has put the local residents into a tizzy.
They have trained their guns on the local administration for deputing Assam police personnel into poll-related duties.
Around three days back the security forces were asked to leave Dholaikhal area.
The local residents have lashed out at the Assam government for failing to understand the seriousness of this ongoing intrusion by few ultra-jingoistic Mizos.
“The Mizos have almost made this area fit for their Jhum cultivation. Mizoram government too has a tacit understanding with these rogue elements. They are taking advantage of our poor administration.”
“Assam government will have to guarantee us that these intrusions will no longer be allowed on our soil. We are aware of how the Mizos got hold of Khulichara and Dhalakhal villages. Our government must act fast because time is running out,” Nandi Purkayastha quipped.
