The NCC has enrolled 800 students from Majuli this year, said additional director general (ADG) of NCC North Eastern Region, Maj Gen Ananta Bhuyan.
Maj Gen Bhuyan shared the information with Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during his meeting with the CM on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by Brig JC Talukdar, group commander of Guwahati Group NCC and Brig (retired) Ranjit Borthakur.

The Assam chief minister complimented the Sainik School authorities and NCC for 22 cadets of Sainik School Goalpara passing the UPSC examination for National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla.
“Maj Gen Bhuyan assured the chief minister that NCC has 50,000 trained students in Assam and they are fully capable to play a positive role for skill development, social upliftment, community development, participation of cadets in government projects and nation building,” Guwahati-based defence PRO Lt Col P Khongsai said in a statement.
“The ADG apprised the chief minister that there were no students in NCC from Majuli. However, this year, 800 students have been enrolled from Majuli,” the statement said.
The Majuli Assembly constituency is represented by Sonowal.
There are two NCC battalions at Golaghat. In case the chief minster desires, one battalion can be relocated to Majuli permanently, the NCC Northeast ADG told Sonowal.
Speaking about the low entry of Army officers from Assam in Indian Armed Forces, Brig (retired) Ranjit Borthakur apprised the CM about the need of a coaching institute at Guwahati where not only Indian Army aspirants but also aspirants of paramilitary forces, IPS and IAS can be trained.
Borthakur also apprised the chief minister that Sainik School Goalpara needed urgent upgradation.
“The chief minister gave a very patient hearing to all the points raised and assured that needful will be done,” the defence PRO stated.
